Best known for his highly stylized sculptures and paintings, British artist Julian Opie (b. 1958) has established a distinctive visual language, conjoining interdisciplinary genres including Pop Art, Minimalism, and Graphic design. Opie first drew attention while studying at the Goldsmiths at the University of London, with his experimental practices, which explore new techniques and materials while denying the traditional segregation of artistic training. Drawing inspiration from billboards signs, Japanese woodblock prints, classical portraits and sculptures, Opie creates unique, minimal landscapes and human figures of daily life in simple lines, shapes, and sophisticated color palette. He presents an unusual pictorial surface that highlights a new visual experience by applying innovative materials such as vinyl paintings and LED panels into his works. This arrangement displays the exceptional visual impact that anyone can easily understand, allowing a new vision of figurative works.
